GABBA TEST WELCOMES RECORD CROWDS

Queensland Cricket Chief Executive Officer Max Walters has praised cricket fans who have attended the First Magellan Ashes Test match at the Gabba.

By late on the fourth day, with Australia pursuing victory, more than 124,000 fans had filed through the gates at the Gabba to watch the opening match of the series.

That total eclipsed the 2013 Brisbane Ashes Test total of 122,910 which was decided in four days.

Walters said it had been pleasing to register such a strong attendance for the Test, with the match evenly poised for much of the game.

“The fans have certainly voted with their feet, generating a wonderful atmosphere which has largely been incident free,’’ he said.

“The large number of visitors have delivered a significant benefit to the State, and we wish to thank our partners Tourism Events Queensland, Brisbane Marketing and Stadiums Queensland for working with us towards this great result."

Entry for tomorrow’s fifth and final day will be via a gold coin donation with proceeds going to Movember, one of Cricket Australia’s charity partners.

Gates 2 and 4 will open at 9am tomorrow with play to commence at 10am.
